The Moscow oil refinery owned by Gazprom Neft has halted crude oil processing after fires broke out at key units following a Ukrainian drone attack. The facility’s recovery could take several weeks.

According to the agency, fires broke out at two main crude distillation units at the Moscow refinery after drones struck the facility on September 20.
Reuters sources in the oil industry said both units were damaged after the drones crashed at the site, and repairs could take several weeks before operations are restored.
The Moscow refinery is one of Russia’s key oil-processing facilities. Its AVT-6 unit has a capacity of 21,400 tonnes of crude oil processing per day, accounting for about 53% of the refinery’s total capacity. The EURO+ complex provides another 18,800 tonnes per day.
Fuel produced by the Moscow refinery has not been offered on the St. Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange since September 21.
According to Reuters sources, the refinery processed 11.6 million tonnes of crude oil in 2024, or about 230,000 barrels per day. The facility produced 2.9 million tonnes of gasoline, 3.2 million tonnes of diesel fuel and 1.3 million tonnes of bitumen.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin previously said that an industrial facility on the refinery’s premises was damaged during a drone attack on the Russian capital.
