More than 57% of the Ukrainian budget is allocated for defense

UAH 1.3 trillion are the expenditures of the general fund of the state budget for the security and defense sector in January-September 2024.

This is 57.6% of the total amount of expenditures of the general fund of the state budget, the Finance Ministry said.

The funds were allocated for:

• monetary support for military personnel, persons of rank and file and police officers;
• purchase of military/special equipment, weapons, ammunition, defense products, personal protective equipment (helmets, body armor and other special equipment), fuel and lubricants, foodstuffs;
• medical support;
• other expenses to ensure the activities of the relevant bodies and formations.

“Security and defense remains an absolute priority and the largest item of expenditure of the state budget. Military expenditures are covered exclusively by internal revenues and borrowings,” the ministry said.
