Trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States and Russia are scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi in the first half of November, focusing on security arrangements following a potential peace settlement. The Kremlin said the discussions would begin without representatives of the European Union.
The announcement was made by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
According to Peskov, Putin has identified security arrangements for Russia and Ukraine following a peace settlement as the main topic of the upcoming negotiations.
“Security for Russia and Ukraine is one of the most important elements of reaching a peace settlement. Without it, a comprehensive solution is impossible,” the Kremlin spokesperson said.
Peskov specified that the meeting is planned for the first half of November in Abu Dhabi. The initial format will involve three parties — Russia, the United States and Ukraine.
Commenting on the possible involvement of the European Union, Peskov said that Europe’s security architecture could not be discussed without other participants. However, he added that whether appointing a special EU envoy for talks on Ukraine would be appropriate depends on Brussels’ position.
Peskov also said that Moscow opposes any country imposing its own vision of the world order on other states.
He separately commented on a possible meeting between Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping. According to Peskov, such a meeting would be important but should not be viewed as a “new Yalta”.
