Explosions and a fire broke out near St. Petersburg

A large fire broke out in Gatchina, Leningrad region of Russia, and residents reported hearing explosions.

The fire engulfed 1,600 square meters of a two-story brick building in an industrial zone, the Russian Emergencies Ministry reports.

Locals heard the explosions around 6 a.m., and huge plumes of smoke were visible from several kilometers away.

Russian media report that an acetone plant is on fire. There was a fuel spill.

The fire has been assigned a complexity rank of 2. Bright flashes are visible at the site of the fire.
