EU foreign ministers have rejected a proposal by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell to suspend political dialogue with Israel over the situation in Gaza.
This was reported by dpa.
At a meeting in Brussels, several countries made it clear that they do not support Borrell’s proposal. Since unanimity is required to make a decision, it cannot be implemented at this time.
According to diplomats, among those who opposed Borrell’s initiative were representatives of Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and the Netherlands.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock, however, expressed her readiness to take action against members of the Israeli government who question the Palestinians’ right to exist or violate international law.
